Proactive Prosthetics at Glasgow 2026: Celebrating Our Patients on the World Stage

Proactive Prosthetics has been proud to support para athletes at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games this week, working alongside Opcare technicians, with the University of Strathclyde kindly supporting the team with workshop facilities.

It has been a fantastic opportunity for our clinical team to be part of the wider Games community and experience elite sport on home soil, and even better to see our own patients competing on the biggest stage.

Making history: Hope Gordon

Among the athletes we support is our patient Hope Gordon, who made history this week as the first female Para Powerlifter to represent Team Scotland at a Commonwealth Games. Competing in the Women’s Heavyweight event at the SEC Armadillo, Hope completed all three of her lifts successfully, a proud personal milestone in a sport she only took up in the past year.

Hope’s route to Glasgow 2026 has been anything but conventional. She has previously represented Great Britain in Para canoeing at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and in Para Nordic skiing at the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, becoming ParalympicsGB’s first female Para Nordic skier along the way. Competing in powerlifting on home soil, in front of a home crowd, made this latest achievement all the more special.

Podium success: Funmi Oduwaiye and Bree Cronin

Two more of our patients also reached the podium at Glasgow 2026. In the women’s discus, Funmi Oduwaiye took silver with a throw of 38.52m and Bree Cronin claimed bronze with a season’s best of 36.00m, both competing for Team Wales. Gold went to Nigeria’s Goodness Nwachukwu, who broke her own world record with a throw of 39.66m.

Congratulations to Funmi and Bree on two brilliant results and on representing Wales with such distinction.

Behind the scenes

None of this happens without a team effort. Throughout the Games, our clinicians have worked closely with Opcare technicians and made use of workshop facilities kindly provided by the University of Strathclyde, making sure our patients and all competing para-athletes had gold standard prosthetic and orthotic support, right when they needed it.
