Prosthetist

Job title: Clinical Lead Prosthetist

Location: Godalming, Surrey

Due to planned development, we are looking for a well-motivated, experienced prosthetist to enhance our expanding team of specialists.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the clinical team at ProActive, Godalming
  • Management of complex traumatic patients
  • Working to the highest standard with responsibility for the complete process of patient care
  • Casting and rectifying of all levels of upper and lower limb amputation
  • Participation as a key member with in the MDT
  • Expert witness report preparation for Medico-Legal Cases

 

Required Qualifications and Experience include:

  • Honours degree in P & O (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge and experience of the latest prosthetic products and techniques
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Management experience preferable but not essential
  • An advanced understanding of socket design and experience in fitting active users
  • Competence in practical aspects and the manufacture of prostheses
  • Ability to communicate and present both formally and informally to healthcare professionals and lawyers
  • HCPC registered

 

ProActive is a private clinic, established in 2001 by founder Richard Nieveen. Our clinical and technical teams collaborate closely with each other offering peer to peer support.  As a company we offer full support with the training needs of our staff and support CPD activities.

We work as part of an MDT led by a consultant in rehabilitation medicine, the team includes Physio, OT, Clinical Psychologist and Exercise Rehab Instructors. We also work as part of a surgical group offering amputation, revision surgery and pain management. Given the nature of our patient referrals we typically work with a patient group of highly motivated individuals aiming to achieve the best levels of outcome.  We are also privileged to work with elite Paralympic athletes and will be supporting the Commonwealth Games this year in Birmingham having been successful in our bid to provide Prosthetic and Orthotic support.

Our purpose-built facility enjoys a beautiful riverside setting close to the town centre. Godalming is a small town centred in the heart of the Surrey countryside two miles south of Guildford, closely linked to the A3 and 15 minutes from Junction 10 of the M25 and has good rail links to London and the South coast.

Clinic Administrator

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Administrator to join our team at ProActive Prosthetics!

Job role summary
The successful applicant will possess strong organisational skills and will be responsible for supporting the Prosthetists with administrative tasks including scheduling for clinical appointments and maintaining electronic and paper based clinical files and correspondence.
The role holder will work alongside an existing Clinic Administrator, undertaking reception and administration duties, which include day to day management and housekeeping of facilities, managing expenses/receipts and customer invoices and assisting with arrangements for in-house and external seminars.
Management of medico-legal instructions for expert reports is also a key element of the role, so experience of working in a legal or clinical environment is desirable.

Physiotherapist (part time)

We are looking for a well-motivated, experienced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to join our expanding team of specialists.

  • MSK treatment of patients

Job title: Prosthetic Technician

Location: Godalming, Surrey

Summary

ProActive Prosthetics is a private facility that has established a great reputation as a centre of excellence, working with individuals who have suffered complex and traumatic amputation. It is also the go to clinic for the large majority of the Team GB Paralympic squad.  ProActive is all about the patient, and offers a friendly and relaxed experience, allowing patients to attain their full potential through their rehabilitation process.

As a clinic we are expending and looking to employ a new member of staff in a newly created role to help in the manufacturing processes involved in making a prosthetic limb. This role will be a trainee position with no previous experience needed, however any background in basic engineering would be desired.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the team who is keen to learn the new and unique skills on manufacturing a prosthetic limb.
Good communication skills are a must in this role will involve working closely with the clinicians that will be fitting the prosthetic legs and arms, also some contact with our clients will be necessary.
Some basic tool and hand skills will help in this role as most of the tasks will involve draping plastic, manufacturing with carbon fibre and assembling the nuts and bolts of todays very modern prosthetic limbs.
A basic knowledge of health and safety is necessary, however specific training on this will be provided in house.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Learning and understanding the types of materials used and the appropriate application to prosthetic hardware.
  • Learning and understand the range of modelling and manufacture techniques to include vacuum forming with thermoplastic materials and the lamination of sockets using GRP and carbon fibre.
  • Safe use of manufacturing machinery and equipment used in the manufacture and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Keeping stock of items in the workshop and replenishment.

 

Desired Qualifications / Experience

This position would suit an individual who has completed a level 2 City and Guilds engineering apprenticeship qualification and has a knowledge of using machine tools.

Previous experience in prosthetic manufacture is not essential as in-house training is provided. It is important the applicant understands workshop and practical skills and understanding of Health and Safety in a workshop environment.

Experience with laminating and the use of resins, fiberglass and composite materials such as carbon fibre would be an advantage.

This position would not be suitable for a graduate level engineer as it is a craft skills role, based in our workshop.
