Proactive Manchester Supports Aaron Moon’s Route 66 Challenge

Since our Manchester clinic opened its doors, we have been proud to support Aaron Moon as he prepared for one of the toughest endurance challenges of his life, cycling the full length of Route 66.

Aaron is a former Royal Marines Commando who lost his leg in Afghanistan in 2009 after his vehicle was struck by an IED. Since then, he has built a remarkable life defined not by injury but by resilience, going on to become a professional golfer, the world’s first amputee indoor skydiving instructor, a motivational speaker, and a TV personality on Channel 4’s Hunted. In January 2025 Aaron faced another serious battle when he survived a life threatening saddle blood clot, an experience that has only strengthened his determination to keep pushing limits.

That determination has now brought him to his biggest challenge yet, cycling the legendary Route 66, spanning more than 2,500 miles, in an attempt to become a two time world record holder.

Supporting Aaron’s Journey

Since Aaron began working with our Manchester clinic, our team has been making his training sockets, adjusting them as his residual limb volume reduced through his training programme. More recently, we completed his definitive cycling socket, the one that will carry him across every mile of Route 66.

Aaron recently popped in to collect his final cycling leg from Ned, the Clinic Manager & Specialist Prosthetist, for Proactive Manchester. Ned and Aaron’s relationship goes back years, having first met at Headley Court, and with Ned then becoming Aaron’s prosthetist within the NHS, before she took on the role of Clinic Manager at Proactive.

It was a fitting moment, marking the end of months of preparation and the start of an extraordinary challenge, built on a relationship of trust that has spanned different stages of Aaron’s care.
