I thought it was long overdue that I write and thank you for all the help and advice you have given over the past year.
Richard, you may recall our second conversation last October when I, just having had ‘not the best experience’ in my latest fitting and me pleading with you to bring forward my initial ‘assessment’ with you, that had been booked for later that month. You duly obliged and agreed to meet me later that week. I truly believe that that day was the turning point for my rehabilitation as, from that point on, I felt that there was someone out there who genuinely knew the importance of getting the right fitting for me and was able to give the time to achieve it.
I received my first ‘ProActive’ prosthesis in December last year. Unfortunately, it did not arrive in time for our annual Christmas do and I remember being in a fair bit of pain during the party last year. Last Saturday it was Christmas do time again and I am happy to report no pain whatsoever from the leg, only a severe pain in the head the following morning!!!
At varying times through last year, I would get a golf club out of the garage and attempt a swing in my old prosthesis and, after a few painful swings, the club would be hurled back into the garage. There were points when I thought to myself that my days of playing golf were over. I returned to playing golf in April this year. I am sure that I have told you and apologise if I repeat myself but 27th April 2011 was 12 months to the day from when I had my leg amputated. I took the day off and played golf with 3 friends. They were kind enough to give me 4 extra shots against my handicap and I came in with 35 points picking up the £5 per man winnings. Needless to say the extra 4 shots have now been taken away!!
The points I mention above are just two of the many ‘positives’ I have had in the last year since meeting up with you all at ProActive and I truly believe that my rehabilitation would be nowhere near where it is today without your support, advice and expertise. I am aware that over this time my limb has got stronger and ‘healed’ but I have no doubt that the ProActive prostheses you have made have assisted greatly.
So, a great big thank you to you and all.
