On Saturday 4th March we opened our doors to welcome patients with their friends and families for the opportunity to see our new facilities and celebrate our Paralympic successes.
We were delighted to see so many patients bring friends and families for the afternoon. The clinic was buzzing with chatter as refreshments were served and tours were made of the new building into the technical areas normally reserved for staff only.
In Richard Nieveen’s (at times emotional) speech he said that Proactive had come a long way in 16years and it was all about the patients; making more possible whether it is to win a gold medal or get out of a wheelchair for those first steps. He also thanked everyone who had come to the open day and reflected on those close to us that have sadly passed away recently.
Sophie Kamlish world record holder for 100m and Rio 2016 finalist spoke of the rollercoaster of her event in Rio, giving an amazing insight as to what goes on physically and mentally during the preparation and the final 100m sprint which takes just under 13 seconds!
Stef Reid spoke of her relationship with the team at Proactive over the past 6 years; the ‘can do’ attitude that solves problems and brings solutions, the ‘family’ feel created by the team and the support to her successes at two Paralympics and world records along the way.
