John Sullivan: Prosthetist
John Sullivan been involved in amputee care at Roehampton since 1978. He began training in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1987 and qualified in 1991. He completed a two year part time research MSc with University College London (Centre for Advanced Instrumentation Systems) in September 2006. John is an external examiner at the University of Salford for final year prosthetic and orthotic students.
John has a special interest in transfemoral osseointegration – the direct attachment of prostheses into the skeletal system. This has been in clinical trial at Roehampton since1997. The study objectively measured and compared the alignment of osseointegrated transfemoral prostheses to normal non-amputee lower extremity alignment and amputee subjects wearing conventional prostheses.
John also has extensive medico legal experience.
