PollyannaPollyanna was just two years old when she was involved in a tragic bus crash which left her with a below knee amputation. Pollyanna is a beautiful, bright little girl who knows exactly what she wants. Quite a challenge then, for her prosthetist 'Richard Nieveen' as she calls him. Her visits to Richard have been characterised by her flambouyant nature and ever changing passions for various cartoon characters which adorn her prosthetic leg. Richard, who has young girls of his own, has built an open, trusting relationship with Pollyanna and her mother which is very important in understanding Pollyanna's growing needs and the family's overall hopes and concerns. Pollanna is doing very well with her prosthesis - she can put it on and take it off by herself and seems unaffected by her limbloss. The prosthesis has restored the function of her lower limb. She has a high definition silicone cover for her limb which she has customised with her favourite cartoon characters. She attends mainstream school and has a variety of active interests including ballet which she really enjoys. At school the teachers have noted that Pollyanne is particularly good at PE. Looking to the future, Pollyanna shouldn't be limited in whatever she wants to do. Limbs can be provided to allow her to participate in most activities she may want to try. |
