Richard Nieveen SRPros MBAPO

Prosthetist and Director of ProActive Prosthetics.

Richard has been working as a Prosthetist since qualifying from the London School of Prosthetics in 1988; his posts without exception have been clinically orientated. As a result of posts and his work Richard has established a strong reputation in the design and fit of sockets and along with Mr Tony Morris pioneered Ischial containment design in the United Kingdom. The socket comfort and the "socket comfort score" developed by Richard with colleagues is a validated method of measurement, now used nationally.

He has held specialist roles within the profession conducting prosthetic research which he has published and presented at international meetings as well as teaching Ischial containment and Anatomical socket design both nationally and internationally

He is an advocate of a multidisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of amputees and he was one of the first Prosthetists to establish multidisciplinary teams in private clinical practice in 1995 at Unsted Park Hospital.
Richard spent much of his early career employed by Blatchfords in research, then Prosthetic Manager at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital; more recently as their Principal Prosthetist providing training & specialist support in the NHS.

In 2001 Richard established ProActive Prosthetics building on the service created by him at Unsted park in the mid 90`s.
The nature of his work with the majority of the patients referred as a result of trauma, makes Richard one of the most experienced prosthetists in this field.
